It would be really kind, if you could get in touch with AVM and deliver the needed information, so that FritzBox users can easily configure their router to inform OpenDNS about the routers IP, without producing unnecessary log files. To implement OpenDNS as a predefined service in their DynamicDNS settings, they said they will need so information from you for their settings screen. They are willing to care about this issue. Then for each network where you want to apply the OpenDNS filtering then go to Settings > Networks > Select Network In the DHCP Name Server change it to Manual and enter the OpenDNS IP addresses. The only change it should require is adjusting the 'Host' in the outgoing request to be set to ' all. I would love to see one more checkbox that would 'Update All Services on DNS-O-Matic'. I already asked AVM for assistance and asked if they could left out the „Domainname“ field when using OpenDnS. Add your DNS O Matic credentials in the settings as per below. Currently, OpenDNS Updater v2.2.1 client can successfully send an update to DNS-O-Matic (if that option is checked on in settings). Post the complete plain text output of the following diagnostic commands here: nslookup -typetxt. This has been working well for our family for some time now. The kids SSID is also controlled at the AP by time of the day. The kids pihole is using OpenDNS with various filters. One is for the adults with the pihole using Google for DNS. What is bothering us users are the „errors“ in the log… If you configued the OpenDNS resolver addresses on the computer, then your router is out of scope. My solution has been 2x SSID, 2x vlan, 2x piholes. Regardless of this errors, the IP gets successful updated with OpenDNS, which is fine :) With no or a wrong domain name entered in this field, the FritzBox log gets filled with errors, about the missing/wrong domain. Since users of OpenDNS are usually not having a domain, they want to keep reachable, they can’t enter anything there. Since OpenDNS is not a real DynamicDNS supplier, it is not listed there yet, so one has to use the user-defined setup, which is asking for „Domainname“, as stated above. In the FritzBox UI there are several DynmaicDNS suppliers listed. Using this feature is also way more comfortable then running the „OpenDNS Updater“… Lots of users relay on this implemented DynamicDNS feature, so that the router can inform your servers, when it gets a new IP (happens all 24h). I would like to ask you for assistance to improve your service with „FritzBox“ routers made by AVM.Īs pointed out in the linked discussion, the firmware for these routers asks for a „Domainname“ when configuring DynamicDNS.
